Weekly Announcement Week of 5/15-19 We will prepare for the end of test next week. We will make sure everyone can read all hiragana and read katakana up to ta line.
Week of 5/1-5/5 May 5th is Children's Day in Japan. We will paint a big koinobori and fly it in the shy on May 5th! We will have a sentence structure reviewing test on Monday. We will work on making katakana chart with hitomoji. Make sure the writing order, too. Teamwork is the key!!
Week of 4/17-21 We will keep making an invitation card. Review katakana reading and hiragana writing!
Week of 4/10-14 We will start a new unit "Let's hang out!". We will learn about after school life of Japanese students. We will make an invitation card. (Birthday? Wedding? Art show? Violin recital?...) We will learn how to connect two or more adjectives. (〜くて〜)
Week of 3/20-24 We will review past and past negative sentence. We will earn vocabulary with word game "Shiratori".
Week of 3/13-17 We will have remaining presentation of "My Last Week". We will prepare for the Q3 test. We will practice listening and speed reading.
Week of 3/6-3/10 The presentation of "My Last Week" due is Wednesday March 8th. On Thursday and Friday, we will have presentation time for all. Also, we will keep practicing hiragana and katakana.
Week of 2/27-3/3 We will keep practicing telling past activities. We will work on the project making a poster of "my last week". We will have a listening test on Tuesday Feb.28.
Week of 2/13-2/17 We will keep practicing telling past activities. We will be able to understand and produce sentences with a mixture of present and past tenses.
Week of 2/6-2/10 We will learn about past tense of verbs. We will be able to ask and talk about what we did yesterday, last week, last year through interview activity.
Week of 1/30-2/3 We will keep practicing how to use "verb past tense". We will learn about the special day in Japan, "Setsubun" and enjoy "mamemaki=bean throwing".
Week of 1/23-26 We will learn about past tense of verbs. We will be able to ask and talk about what we did yesterday, last week, last year through interview activity. The vocabulary quiz will be on Thursday.
Week of 1/17-20 We will focus on reviewing how to read modified syllables, such as しゃ、しゅ、しょ、びゃ、ぎゅ、ぴょ... We will start a new Unit " What did you do yesterday". We will learn about past tense of verbs and will be able to ask and tell what you did yesterday.
Week of 1/9-13 We will do ”かきぞめ”(“the first calligraphy”). Let's draw the New Year's resolution or your favorite letter on a paper! We will do かるた for reviewing hiragana/katakana. We will do shopping sugoroku for reviewing shopping conversation. Sugoroku is a Japanese traditional board game. We will have a end of semester test on Fri. Jan.13.
Weeks of 1/3/2023-1/6/2023 We will review Japanese New Year's traditions. We will play かるた. We will review the counter words with cards. We will try Japanese calligraphy. We will have a listening test on Friday.
Weeks of 11/14-21 We will learn about shopping conversation. Think about what you would like to buy for family and friends for the upcoming gift-giving season, and practice situations in which you would buy it. We will be able to read and write katakana ア and カ line.
Week of 10/24-28 We will talk about "Dream Classrooms". We will discuss what we want to put in the classroom, how we want the classroom to be designed, and do a project to create the ideal classroom.
Week of 10/17-21 We are working hard to practice reading Japanese short sentences. On Monday, we will have a reading test for the students who couldn't finish it Friday. We are starting a new unit "Dream Classrooms". We will be able to compare classrooms from different countries and the U.S. and use locational language to tell what is in the classroom. We will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday.
Week of 10/11-14 We will learn the Japanese way of thinking by imagining what is meant by idioms using the names of body parts. We will review hiragana and practice to read hiragana smoothly. We will have reading test on Friday! Practice to read hiragana short sentences. Week of 10/3-7 We will review how to describe a creature with body part names and adjectives such as size, shape and colors. We will work on the “youkai (the supernatural entities and spirits in Japanese folklore)" project using body part names and adjectives. Speaking test on Wednesday. Week of 9/26-9/30 We traced our friends and wrote the names of their body parts in Japanese last week. We won't have a class on 9/26 because of teacher workday. We will learn about "youkai" (Japanese monsters) and start the “youkai" project using the body parts names we learned. We will have a speaking test on Friday Sep.30.
