We painted koinobori. Each student painted one scale.
We enjoyed floating koinobori outside and Japanese children's play "darumasan ga Coronda"
Weekly Announcement Week of 5/15-19 We are going to prepare for the end of year test. We will make sure everyone memorize all hiragana.
Week of 5/8-12 We will do research on the Japanese festival you chose. When is it held? Where? What is the festival for? How old the festival is? Special clothes, food, music...? We will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday. ---> change to Mon. May 15th. Week of 5/1-5/5 May 5th is Children's Day in Japan. We will paint a big koinobori and fly it in the shy on May 5th! We will review all hiragana with a card game. We will memorize katakana a line. We will lean about Japanese festivals.
Week of 4/24-28 We will be able to ask which you like and which you like best. We will start to learn katakana!
Week of 4/17-21 We all will get a hiragana black belt. Review the all hiragana! We will learn about Japanese Children's Day. We will learn about the expression of comparing. Please have a black belt test by Thu. 4/20.
Week of 4/10-14 We will learn calendar word. How to count the date, month?
Week of 3/27-31 Q3 test on 3/28 (postponed from 3/27). We will practice hiragana writing. Turn in all the late works.
Week of 3/20-24 We will compare Japanese school lunch time and lunch time in ours. We will prepare for the end of Q3 test. We will have a Q3 test on 3/27. We will practice reading hiragana with speed reading.
Week of 3/6-3/10, 3/13-17 We will compare Japanese school life and our own school life. We will be able to describe our own time schedule, the subjects we are good at, bad at. We will learn the differences between Japanese schools and our own school in various aspects, including school activities, subjects, transportation, etc.
Week of 2/27-3/3 We will wrap up the unit "Daily Activities" with the listening test on Tuesday Feb.28. We will start a new unit "School Life" and compare the school in Japan to our school. March 3rd is the Girls Day in Japan. It is called "hinamatsuri". We will learn about the day.
Week of 2/13-2/17 We will keep practicing telling our routine activities. We will have a vocabulary quiz for basic verbs on Thursday Feb. 16th.
Week of 2/6-2/10 We will practice how to describe weather and time with board games. We will start to learn basic verbs and will be able to tell our routine activities. Week of 1/30-2/3 We will practice how to ask and tell the time and the weather. We will learn about the special day in Japan, "Setsubun" and enjoy "mamemaki=bean throwing".
Week of 1/23-26 We will review how to read time and we will be able to ask and tell the time in certain places in the world. We will learn how to describe weather. We will be able to ask and tell the weather in a certain place. The vocabulary quiz will be on Thursday.
Week of 1/17-20 We will start a new unit about weather this week. We will be able to tell the weather and time of now and past. We Will have a vocabulary quiz on Friday.
Week of 1/9-13 We will do ”かきぞめ”(“the first calligraphy”). Let's draw the New Year's resolution or your favorite letter on a paper! We will do かるた for reviewing hiragana/katakana. We will play Japanese traditional play, "fukuwarai". You will be able to say eyes, nose, mouth, right and left. We will have a end of semester test on Fri. Jan.13.
Weeks of 1/3/2023-1/6/2023 We will learn about Japanese New Year's tradition. We will play Japanese traditional games. We will try Japanese calligraphy. We will have a listening test on Friday.
Weeks of 11/14-21 We will be able to tell what you are good at and bad at. We will be able to read hiragana from あ to た line. Everyone should have a た line belt by Tue. 11/21! →We practiced hiragana with Japanese card game, call"karuta".
Week of 10/24-28 We will be able to introduce our family including pets. We will be able to describe each family member's personality. We will have a vocabulary test on Friday.
Week of 10/17-21 We learned a lot of animal words and colors. Now we can describe animal colors, ask and talk about our favorite/dislike colors. I am proud of my students! They did a great job on the first quiz about numbers. We started to practice one of the Japanese writing systems called "hiragana".
